EASTER EGGS

What are Easter eggs ? You mite probably answer “ they are huge sugar laced eggs filled with chocolates or sweets that would be hidden by elders as a surprise during Easter time”

However in technical jargon ‘Easter eggs is something different .Wikipedia now defines it in this way “An Easter egg is an unintentional hidden message joke or a feature in a object movie ,book cd,dvd web page or a computer program”

Well c the last word of the above paragraph’ computer program’ .Yeah that inspired me to do a bit of research in Easter eggs hidden in computer programs .Most people think of computer engineers as serious geeks for whom Windows is even more important than well eh… wife(sorry bad joke).Nah all of them are not like that ..at least I am not like that..Well getting back to the point many coders have put great jokes up there sleeves into their programs ..its now for us to discover them..

The first easter egg I found was present in Windows 97 .if u type “Bill Clinton” and press Shift+F7 an UK Thesaurus dialogue box comes upon screen with a synonym “I would like to see her naked” .This was at the height of Monica Lewinsky scandal. To get this joke you must set your language setting in Word 97 to UK English.

Here is another one that works in almost every version of Word. Just type “=rand(5,10)” and press enter .You l get 10 paragraphs with 5 sentences each

Open word and type anything anything. Now select whatever you hav written and press control alt-+ and see the cursor change

There are a lot of easter eggs hidden in the web Browser Mozilla Firefox too .lets see some of them type in ‘about:mozilla’ and just see the magic

Or type in ‘about:robots’ and hold ur breath …I wont say find it out yourself

or type 'about: : rights' n see for yourself

Did you know that the flight number of the plane that had hit WTC ...on
9/11 was Q33N ....Open your Notepad in ur computer and type the flight
number i.e Q33N... Increase the Font Size to 72, Change the Font to
Wingdings. U will be amazed by the findings.

Here is a cool notepad secret type “Bush hid the facts “ in a notepad file and save it .then re-open it Whew!!where has the text gone

There are many other Easter eggs in other program .for example you can cheat and win in solitaire by pressing simultaneously Alt- Shift and 2 .

However one of the best is this one .navigate to www.yahoo.com. Make sure the speakers re on .Click on the dot under the exclamation mark of the mast head of Yahoo! .Enjoy

CD VS DVD

Have you ever wondered how does a combo drive play both cd and dvds .?

Why do combo drives often stop reading DVDs but are still able to read CDs?

First lets figure out the essential differnces between CD/ DVDs

DVDs can store more data than CDs for a few reasons:

  • Higher-density data storage
  • Less overhead, more area
  • Multi-layer storage

Single-sided, single-layer DVDs can store about seven times more data than CDs. A large part of this increase comes from the pits and tracks being smaller on DVDs. Let's try to get an idea of how much more data can be stored due to the physically tighter spacing of pits on a DVD. The track pitch on a DVD is 2.16 times smaller, and the minimum pit length for a single-layer DVD is 2.08 times smaller than on a CD. By multiplying these two numbers, we find that there is room for about 4.5 times as many pits on a DVD. So where does the rest of the increase come from?

More Area
On a CD, there is a lot of extra information encoded on the disc to allow for error correction -- this information is really just a repetition of information that is already on the disc. The error correction scheme that a CD uses is quite old and inefficient compared to the method used on DVDs. The DVD format doesn't waste as much space on error correction, enabling it to store much more real information. Another way that DVDs achieve higher capacity is by encoding data onto a slightly larger area of the disc than is done on a CD.

Multiple-Layered Storage
To increase the storage capacity even more, a DVD can have up to four layers, two on each side. The laser that reads the disc can actually focus on the second layer through the first layer. Here is a list of the capacities of different forms of DVDs:

COMBO DRIVES

Every CD/DVD ROM has a lens which is used for reading Data.In case of combo Drive

The same read head lens is used to read both CD's and DVD's

There are two essential physical differences between CD and DVD disc.

First, the smallest DVD pits are only 0.44 micron in diameter; the equivalent CD pits are nearly twice as large, or 0.83 micron wide.

And DVD data tracks are only 0.74 micron apart, wherea 1.6 microns separate CD data tracks. So although a DVD is the same size as a CD,its data spiral is upward of 11 kilometers long-more than twice the length of a CD's data spiral.

To read the smaller pits, a DVD player's readout beam must achieve finer focus than a CD player's does. In order to do this, it uses a read semiconductor laser that has a wave length of 635 to 650 nanometer. In contrast, CD players use infrared laser with a longer wavelength of 780 nanometer. Also, DVD players employ a more powerful focusing lens-one having a higher numerical aperture than the lens in a CD player

In that case after a particular time if the lens weakens only CD's are read and not DVD's.

INCREASE BROADBAND SPEED

ONLY FOR BSNL USERS

Speed up BSNL Broadband Internet Connection
To overcome slow BSNL DNS problem, we will use high speed DNS servers from OpenDNS. OpenDNS is third party DNS Server used to speed up BSNL Broadband internet connection

Steps to speed up BSNL Broadband Internet :

2. Now a window showing all networks will be opened. Select BSNL Connection -> Right click -> Properties.
3. Now, double click on Internet Protocol Version(TCP/IPv4) and in newly opened window at bottom, select “Use the following DNS Server address”
4. And fill these 2 DNS Addresses in two fields:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

and hit OK. Thats it. Your BSNL Internet Broadband DNS Servers changed.

Now, your BSNL internet broadband speed will be increased. Thus, you can now enjoy high speed BSNL Internet broadband. I hope you’ll like this BSNL Internet speed increasing hack/trick. If you have any problem or other high speed BSNL DNS Servers, please mention it in comments section

BING

Microsoft’s latest search engine BING was launched a few days back and its has already started creating ripples worldwide .BING is the much touted replacement to the now defunct Windows Live search. I experimented with it one whole day and the results were quite surprising and quite pleasing in many cases .For instance when I typed a part of my blogsite address and searched not only did it show the site and the post in that site but also the entries I had made on Facebook regarding those blogposts .Apart from that I had published an article in DIGG which I had long forgotten ,I got its link too from the search results .Another feature of its which i liked is the preview mode where by just moving the cursor over the web page address or link will give you a short preview of whta is in store there

Though it is too early to say that it a replacement for Google its definitely shows a lot of promise .SO friends what are u waiting for just BING!!!!!
